Yet another blog for Nan

I just made a new blog for myself...the Insane Seamstress. The point of this blog is to be more of a dress diary of sorts. I'm taking on a project (possibly to be done by this weekend if I'm completely insane...) that I've been wanting to do for a long time based on a JW Waterhouse painting entitled Miranda: The Tempest (1915). Waterhouse is my absolute favorite artist and I have several other dresses that I've found in his paintings that I intend to try to reproduce.

Anyway, just thought I'd toss that out. Follow the madness of the Insane Seamstress. :)

Shamelessly stolen from her blog...

May I present our own groupie, Kalyne, playing drums with one of the Lost Boys this past weekend!!!

Four Down, Three to Go!

This weekend was tiring, but I think a good one. Seriously, we could not have asked for better weather on Sunday. Cool, breezy, overcast...perfect English weather without the rain!

Cindy's girl Jaty has a habit of shaking when she's nervous, and being the demon child that I am, I suggested that she needed a coin scarf to accentuate that vibration. Cindy bought her one!! As I said in the email, it was Naima (I'm sure Kalyne will correct my spelling if I got that name wrong) that watched Jaty shake for a moment and said "I wish my vibration was that tight!" You could HEAR the jingling. We had a good laugh, and threatened Morgan with the scarf a few times...or maybe some zils attached to his ears?

Thanks for understanding when I flaked on the invitations to spend the night, y'all. I hope we can get this problem under control THIS WEEK. If not, I am considering camping up there like I did last year. We'll see. I'm also considering some new garb for this weekend since it's Halloween, but I still have a bodice and skirt (more peasant style stuff) that's waiting to be put together so that may take precedence over a costume just for Halloween.

Four Down, Three to Go, and they are three fun ones!! Thanks again, you guys, for all you're doing. We have a great group this year, and I'm really having a blast when I'm not too exhausted to enjoy it!

New Tent Rule

Only the hounds are allowed to roach. Linda, that means you.

Apparently Star nudged the bench her momma was sitting on one too many times and one of the legs was off the platform. When Linda sat down on it, she just kept going over and landed on her back on the ground, feet and hoop in the air. Linda is the best and has a fantastic sense of humor, and laughed the entire thing off even though I am sure it hurt.

No human roaching, regardless of how funny the outcome. Thanks for being a good sport, Linda, and for such a good laugh.

Tavette, Bea, and Tavette's Mom

Another one from season number one. I don't remember whether or not the sleeves are detachable, but there is a green privacy panel in the back and I believe the skirt is all one piece with a faux underskirt.

One of the Gowns for Sale, Maybe?

I would imagine that this is one of the dresses that the lady in Spartanburg is wanting to sell. It's black velveteen, same weight as my blue/gold one (same kind of fabric). I'll see if I have more clear pictures of her garb, but I have no idea which ones she is wanting to sell.

Quote for the Day

Nadine and Debbie were discussing certain parts of male costumes, and Nadine mentioned that even Katherine had noticed "cod pieces." When Debbie questioned her as to the meaning of "cod piece," Nadine explained what it was. "Oh!" Debbie says. "I thought those were Hoo Hoo Holders."

I now know how I split the seam in the side of my bodice...

Bleh, Mom, I don't feel so good...

So...no more of that free jerky for Profile. At some point before I dropped off Kalyne, I remember this awful noise and thought he had belched. Apparently that wasn't a belch...I found the jerky all over the back of the Element. Now I know why he wouldn't lie down all the way from Charlotte to home...

Just look at that face! He's still a little green in the gills...

Nice nose, Sal! I LOVED meeting this boy! He is a dreamboat!!

What was your favorite moment from this past weekend? Pinky stroking out when Morgan entered the tent? Jaci stroking out and losing the power of speech when the grandaddy longlegs crawled on her face?

I think my favorite moment was right at the end of the day Sunday, sitting with my Hunky in my arms, groovy music from the Dutch Door stage and the smell of patrons and privies in the air. :)

Crunch Time

Every Sunday night when I get home, I think, "This week I'm going to be productive." In fact, on Monday of this week I went out and got some lovely fabric for a new bodice that will lace in the FRONT and some red fabric for a new underskirt for the MacDonald dress (plaid). On Tuesday I thought about throwing the skirt together (I think all totalled the black skirt took me about 2 hours not including lacing the drawstring through the channel...ugh), but then decided not to because I was distracted by something shiny. Yesterday I really thought about doing the skirt but remembered that I need to sew a new comb into the front of my pill box hat if I want to wear that costume this weekend. I didn't get it done, I just remembered it.

Today is Thursday and I have an interpreting gig after my regular work day so I won't be getting a skirt made today. I can probably accomplish the comb in the pill box. Tomorrow is Friday, and not only do I have a rather full day at work I am going with my friends to see a house that I might be moving into (YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY) so my time is going to be limited until late evening.

Looks like another late night sewing before I get up and drive to Huntersville in the morning...anyone else as bad at procrastinating as I am?

The Rainy Day Dress

 Posted by Picasa

This picture was taken in 2003, our second year at CRF. You can see the first incarnation of the rainy day dress in the back there...and how small our tent was. That was the one in front of the storm drain... :(

Profile, Then

For those who didn't know my Old Man back then, this picture was taken in the fall of 2002...note the dark brindle that spread down the side of his face...it's all white now. I just found this and thought I'd share.

Sunday, Sunday, SUNDAY!

I don't know how Saturday went...from the looks of the parking lot when I got there Sunday I'd say it was kinda wet though. Bleh. Kudos and my undying gratitude to those who stuck it out in what I understand was nasty weather. You guys are awesome.

Sunday was a day filled with bees and the ever present and irritating hypnotist's voice. Did it seem to anyone but me that he was getting louder and louder with each successive show? Oy.

That beautiful little foster girl of Debbie's, Grace-Rocket-Gracie-Greyhoundtobenamedlater is just the sweetest little thing and she was SO working the crowds...after she got over trying to climb into the laps of everyone around her (even those not sitting down!!). She mesmerized one of the bellydancers, Vicki (stage name unknown), who sat with her and rubbed her while she slept. I can't wait to see the pictures we got...maybe they can go on the GFNC website with her picture!! You'd have to say that the bellydancer isn't included though...hehe

Our spot isn't turning out to be as bad as I thought it would be, but I'm rather distressed that we won't be included in the Boo and Brew party because our section won't be open that night. That was so interesting last year, seeing the festival after hours, lit sparsely and looking all spooky and mystical. We're still waiting to hear if we can use our IDs just to go in as patrons.

The rainy day dress is going to undergo more changes, so you may not see it again this season. I'm thinking that I need to add MORE panels to the skirt so that the curtain tape will work properly, and I'm thinking of black panels alternating with the stripey fabric. We'll see. The pearls are definitely history.

So...tell us about Saturday!!

Flashbacks

Ok, I have to tell ya, this ya-la-ya-ha-bee-bee!! brings to mind every time I see it...

Joanne slapping at her corset yelling something similar sounding about a bee INSIDE her corset.

Even though Nan has brought me up to date to what it really means--- thats the picture that comes to mind EVERY TIME!

Okay, I'll start...

I have several moments that I think were just awesome from this weekend...

...Lexi, the three-year-old with CP that smiled at Profile...I just wish he would have cooperated and smiled back at her!

...The look on Debbie's face when she looked up and saw the peacock feathers in my hair...

...the look on Tim Tam's face every time Debbie stopped fanning him...

...rooing in protest of the monkey dance...

Chickens and Ducks and Bellydancers, Oh My!

One weekend down!! Y'all, I was so proud of us this weekend. Everyone looked great, the dogs took the crowds, heat, and loose poultry in stride, and I think we had a lot of fun. What were your favorite moments?
